Small Scale Fashion.

For the celebration of Black History Month, my college held a show which consisted of singers, dancers and poets. The section of this show that I loved the most had to be the fashion show. Lasting around about 20/30 minutes, I thought the looks featured demonstrated youth at its finest. A-line leather skirts were my favorite of the night along with studded denim shorts and big, thick, chunky faux fur jackets to shield one from the chilly winds of winter. Blazers were also all the rage in this show featuring colours like green, blue and black which gave the models a sense of structure to their body's frame.

These next couple of shots were quite blurred since the models were walking quite fast. I still like the effect of a body captured in movement so I decided to add them also.

A kind of blurred close up of the faux fur jacket that I love!

OOTD: A Family Outing

This is going to be a quick post because I want to go into depth on some of the other pieces that are featured in this outfit in another post.

Okay, heading long distance to my sisters house. Even though I knew I going to be around my nieces and nephew, I still wanted to look good. I decided to wear my Stylistpick knee high boots for the cold weather, Topshop's printed scarf, black skinny Levis jeans, camo jacket from Pull&Bear and finally my jean shirt from Korea.

Close up of the scarf. It is truly to die for. I love it

J.W.Anderson x Topshop

This collaboration between J.W. Anderson and Topshop has literally gotten me so excited I just had to make a post. I noticed this while updating my LookSoup page, and it struck me as fabulous. Its a sort of weird, dark, yet fantastic collection that I seriously cannot help but adore and I believe the first picture in this post portrays these feelings perfectly. In mainstream fashion, I personally haven't seen anything like this. For instance, printing something so simple as a mini mart on a tee shirt and 'bam' its beautiful. It seems like the thought process behind it was so effortless but it is pure and utter genius to me. Two of the items I think I need to own are the turtle print trousers and the draw string bag with his initials, stamping their approval. I mean, bloodish red turtles on cream is just an amazing thought. And especially the very idea of a turtle on trousers. I have seen many things in fashion, but I have not yet seen turtles on trousers, until now. I love it!  I do in fact feel that this collection has quite a niche audience and it is very risky to put this out into the mainstream, but in saying this, I feel that it will quickly gain popularity, and to back up my statement,  I was in Oxford Street this afternoon and I literally saw like 20 woman with a J.W.Anderson x Topshop bag within the space of like 5 minutes.

One of my other loves in this collection of beauty is the top with the boy in the mask (see above). On first appearances I thought, 'creepy'? But its has grown on me. I feel like I have to get it. I've probably looked, while typing this post I add, about 10 times at this tee because I love it so. Its truly amazing!

Another thing that draws me in, is the mixture of patterns. Stripes, tartan, quilted tops then block colours to finish off. And this was what I meant by daring.

In Another Galaxy.

Recently, fashion has been turning to the scientific side of life. I have been noticing, through using various social networking sites and on the streets of London, the use of astronomy within fashion.

I finally have a chance to showcase this trend to you through this post and through some selected examples of brands that feature these styles mainly consisting of shoes and skirts. Some of the brands that have noticed carrying this style of clothing includes the ever so famous Jeffery Campbell and my new found clothing shop, Shadow Play NYC.

Jeffery Campbell - 99 Tie

Jeffery Campbell - Night Walk

Jeffery Campbell - Lita

Jeffery Campbell - Damsel

Shadow Play NYC -  Crimson Galaxy Starcluster Skirt
Shadow Play NYC - Sagan Galaxy Skirt

Shadow Play NYC - 3D Galaxy Skirt

I have literally fallen in love with this craze. I think it is quite adventurous and I would love to try it out. This is an example of daring style that I feel fashion is moving towards, yet in saying this, I believe this is just the beginning and designs like this one will definitely begin to emerge out of nowhere to total to complete excellence.
In terms of the galaxy craze, the colours are outstanding. Blues, pinks, whites, hints of green, purples all bonded in a melting pot of fun that creates looks good enough for a day in the park with a Starbucks frappuccino in hand or a night out on the town or to paint it red so to speak.

Japanese Fashion: Menswear Fall/Winter 2012

While watching a programme on NHK World called 'Tokyo Fashion Express', I came across some beautiful male clothing featured in Japan Fashion Week for Fall/Winter. All designers are Japanese and have created concepts that differ dramatically in terms of how a man can be presented through the clothes he wears. The three brands that I shall be discussing are:

FACTOTUM by Koji Udo:

This brand based this line of clothing on nature's colours. Blue's, beige's, grey's and whites. The show was displayed to an audience with a picture of the moon, a wooden cabin and the earth covered in snow. This gives the impression of a clothing line based on keeping one warm and the wilderness and looking good while keeping those two factors in mind. I adored the jumpers with wolfs printed on them like the picture above, or the techniques of layering which I found to be very helpful for the coming months. All in all, a wonderful line with comfy yet smart-ish looking clothing.

- Sise by Seishin Matsui

This collection to me was simplistic, and light on the eyes. The colours kept in the boundaries of white to grey to black which I found to be quite daring as I personally would have thought that the collection would have seemed to be quite boring. But boy was I wrong. I enjoyed watching this through my television screen as I saw thick scarfs, perfect for winter ( and ones that I definitely would like to get my hands on), shorts shocked me as I thought "winter?" But again, even being a woman, I still would buy them and add my own twist. I thought it to be a beautiful collection and I really hope to see something like this in the future of fashion.

- White Mountaineering by Yosuke Aizawa

This collection was inspired by an international terminal where different cultures walk through the airport dressed as if coming home from abroad or going away on holiday. To portray this, Aizawa used an array of models each from different parts of the world. He also made most, if not all of the models, carry bags in the form of luggage to imitate an international airport. Aizawa used prints and patterns of many kinds including aztec, stripes and plaid. This was a comfortable sort of collection that featured colours like browns, oranges, deep reds/burgundy's, beige's, whites and so on. For the finale, all the men walked out on the runway as shown in the last image.
